A study to characterize the distribution of vehicle related air pollution in proximity to a major arterial road was undertaken to inform local land use planning and policy regarding separation distances that could help reduce exposure for new sensitive land use development. Measurements of criteria air contaminants were made at ground level, 10 m, 30 m, and 60 m from curb side, and at 9 m height, 10 m from curb side along a traffic corridor carrying over 34,000 vehicles per day. Pollutant decay with distance or height was not statistically significant for O₃, CO, or SO₂.

Planners have long been interested in understanding ways in which land use planning approaches play out on the ground and planning scholars have approached the task of evaluating such effects using a variety of methods. Oregon, in particular, has been the focus of numerous studies owing to its early-adopted and widely recognized statewide approach to farm and forest land protection and recent experiment with relaxation of that approach in 2004 with the passage of ballot Measure 37.

Motor vehicle traffic is an important source of particulate pollution in cities of the developing world, where rapid growth, coupled with a lack of effective transport and land use planning, may result in harmful levels of fine particles (PM₂.₅) in the air. However, a lack of air monitoring data hinders health impact assessments and the development of transportation and land use policies that could reduce health burdens due to outdoor air pollution.

There is increasing interest in Zimbabwe in developing a biofuels industry based on the production of biodiesel using Jatropha as the main feedstock. This has led to the introduction of Jatropha as a commercial energy crop in the country. There are plans to grow 1220 km2 of Jatropha which will supply about 365,000 t of seed. This will provide about 110 dam3 of biodiesel required to achieve a blending level of 10% with petro-diesel.

Simulation of the land subdivision process is useful in many applied and research areas. Planners use such tools to understand potential impacts of planning regulations prior to their implementation. While the credibility of both land-use change and urban growth models would be enhanced by integrating capabilities to simulate land subdivision, such research is lacking in the published literature. Of the few subdivision tools that exist, most are either not fully-automated or are unable to generate realistic subdivision layouts.

Tanzania's land, local government and forest laws mean that rural communities have well defined rights to own, manage and benefit from forest and woodland resources within their local areas through the establishment of village forests. This approach, known by practitioners as Community Based Forest Management (CBFM) results in the legal establishment of village land forest reserves, community forest reserves or private forests. By 2008, 1,460 villages on mainland Tanzania1 were involved in establishing or managing village forests covering a total of over 2.345 million hectares.

This report is intended to provide guidance on best practices in mining licensing, based on examples from low, middle and high income countries in Africa, Asia, North America, and South America. It is not a 'how-to guide' or a licensing implementation toolkit, but rather identifies certain common features of successful mining licensing regimes worldwide that other national or sub-national jurisdictions might usefully incorporate in new mining laws and regulations or revisions or existing ones.

Het ministerie van Economische Zaken, Landbouw en Innovatie (EL&I) wil dat het voor betrokken partijen (initiatiefnemers, overheden en adviseurs/rentmeesters) gemakkelijker wordt om nieuwe landgoederen te realiseren. Dat begint met inzicht in en kennis over het natuurbeleid van rijk, provincie en gemeentes én bestaande knelpunten, mogelijkheden die op te lossen en duidelijkheid over welke stappen betrokken partijen kunnen nemen om een nieuw landgoed te ontwikkelen.

Alterra heeft in 2011 in samenwerking met DLG een aantal studies uitgevoerd naar de mogelijkheden om het concept ecosysteemdiensten in te zetten bij ruimtelijke planvorming. Een van de pilots, die zich aandiende kwam uit Heerlen. De Gemeente wil graag dat private partijen en burgers (ook groepen van bewoners, stichtingen en verenigingen) participeren in de ontwikkeling, aanleg en beheer van de nieuwe groen-blauwe zones, zodat het gebruik wordt vergroot en de kosten voor de gemeente beperkt blijven.

Weidevogels spelen een belangrijke rol in het ruimtelijk beleid van de provincie Friesland, ook al zijn weidevogelgebieden (buiten de EHS en buiten eigendom van een natuurorganisatie) niet planologisch beschermd. In het streekplan van de provincie is namelijk bepaald dat weidevogelwaarden in de afweging van nieuwe ruimtelijke ontwikkelingen als zelfstandig belang moeten worden betrokken. Een weidevogelcompensatie is aan de orde bij ruimtelijke ingrepen en is nader uitgewerkt in het Werkplan Weidevogels (2007-2013).

Nuon onderzoekt de mogelijkheden om de bestaande windparken Harry van den Kroonenberg, Irene Vorrink en Jaap Rodenburg te saneren en deze te vervangen door een nieuw windpark en daarmee invulling te geven aan de beleidsregel 'Windmolens 2008' van de provincie Flevoland. In het kader van verzamelen van informatie over de ecologische situatie in het gebied van de windparken, heeft Nuon IMARES gevraagd informatie te leveren over het voorkomen van beschermde vissoorten in het gebied rond de windparken.

Een aantal gemeenten in en rond Midden-Delfland heeft een fonds ingesteld om de instandhouding van het agrarisch cultuurlandschap van dit gebied te ondersteunen via een puntensysteem voor de beloning van ‘Groene Diensten’. De Europese Commissie heeft het puntensysteem getoetst en goedgekeurd. Deze goedkeuring schrijft een audit voor, waarvan dit rapport het verslag is. De vraag van het bestuur van het Groenfonds aan Alterra Wageningen-UR was of de uitvoering en de besteding van de Groenfondsgelden rechtmatig zijn. Dit blijkt het geval te zijn.
