This Act is enacted to fairly, promptly and effectively handle public nuisance disputes, to safeguard the rights and interests of the people, and to improve social harmony. It consists of 51 articles divided into 4 Chapters: General Provisions; Organizations Handling Public Disputes; Settlement Procedures; Supplementary Provisions.The “public nuisance” in this Act means human activities which destroy the living environment, and damage or endanger public health.

This Proclamation of the Afar National Regional State establishes a rural land administration system that is suitable for natural resource management and protection and that incentivizes investment within the traditional clan-based communal land tenure system. Laws that pertain to lands designated as forest lands, wildlife sanctuaries, biodiversity protected lands, environmental and natural resource conservation and preservation areas shall not be affected by this Proclamation. The Proclamation, among other things: provides for survey, registration, certification etc.

The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord was signed on December 2, 1997 in Dhaka at the Prime Minister's office between the government and the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS). However, some hill tribe sects and organisations have rejected the accord. Both sides, considering CHT as Tribal Populated Region, recognised the necessity for protection of the character of this region and for overall development of it.

This Act, consisting of 58 sections divided into 15 Parts and completed by one Schedule, establishes measures for facilitating sales, leases, and other disposition of settled land, etc. Under the Act, “settlement” includes “an instrument or instruments which under this Act or the corresponding previous enactments is or are deemed to be or which together constitute a settlement, and a settlement which is deemed to have been made by any person or to be subsisting for the purposes of this Act”, what constitutes a settlement is defined under section 8.

This Act concerns the protection of tenants in Sri Lanka. Landlords of premises are forbidden from using or threatening force or violence against tenants or persons in occupation of premises (sect. 2). A court order is required to eject a tenant from premises (sect. 5). There are provisions concerning the procedure for ejectment (sect. 6) and the powers of the Commissioner (sect. 7). The Commissioner may institute a prosecution in respect of any offence under this Act. Section 9 concerns offences and penalties that may arise under the provisions.

This Act provides with respect to definition of tenancy rights in respect to agricultural holdings. A secure tenancy is a long term heritable tenancy with security of tenure and a succession right An agricultural holding is the consolidation of agricultural land, fixed equipment, house, buildings, in any tenancy arrangement between a landlord and a tenant farmer.

The objective of these Regulations, consisting of four sections and one Form, is to prescribe the method for calculating the reasonable costs of negotiating land use activities. For the purposes of section 52(2) of the Act, the prescribed method for calculating the reasonable costs of negotiating under section 50 of the Act is the method that: (a) uses Form 1; and (b) includes any one or more of the following costs incurred by the traditional owner group entity in preparing for and conducting the negotiation: (i) decision-making costs; (ii) the cost of professional services.
