LAC: Land Valuation, Titling, and Rights: Trends, Innovations and ICT Applications

The Regional Operational Workshop in Latin America and the Caribbean explored recent developments in land valuation, titling, and the application of ICT within land administration. The event's second thematic session focused on innovative methodologies for land valuation, taxation, and land titling, highlighting regional experiences and trends. Discussions began with an examination of the role of cadastral systems in property taxation across the region, emphasizing their importance for accurate and equitable tax assessments. Ecuador’s presentation addressed legal reforms and land value capture, illustrating how policy changes can enhance land management and funding for urban development. Chile shared insights into technological applications for land valuation, showcasing innovative financing mechanisms that support effective land administration. Jamaica concluded the session with an overview of its systematic land titling program, highlighting efforts to streamline the titling process and secure property rights. The workshop emphasized the importance of leveraging technology and legal frameworks to improve land administration, with a focus on equitable and sustainable management practices.
