LAND GOVERNANCE IN TRANSITION: 

How to support transformations that work for people and nature?

Large-scale acquisition of land in the global South has received a great deal of interest in the last few years. Especially following the food crisis, and stimulated by the growing demand for biofuels, pressure on land continues to increase.

In 2019 the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) will focus the world’s attention on the fundamental importance of rights to address the current environmental crisis. Linking people to landscapes, the GLF will explore the essential contributions of indigenous peoples, local communities, and rural and indigenous women and youth in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement targets on climate change, highlighting the transformative role of rights and rights-based approaches in securing a more just, sustainable and prosperous future for all. Woven across the year’s events, these priorities will form the centerpiece of the annual conference in Bonn, Germany – to be held on June 22–23 alongside the intersessional climate talks – making it the world’s single largest forum on rights and sustainable landscapes.

CFS 46 is from 14 – 18 October 2019 at FAO, Rome, Italy and will be the first major global meeting on food security and nutrition after the High Level Political Forum SDG Summit in New York in September 2019. The SDGs will be the theme of the week with a particular focus on ways to accelerate SDG 2 – zero hunger.

La troisième édition de la Conférence sur la politique foncière en Afrique sera organisée par le Centre de la politique foncière en Afrique, initiative conjointe de la Commission de l’Union africaine, de la Commission économique pour l’Afrique et de la Banque africaine de développement. La Conférence est un évènement où sont débattues les politiques et de façon pédagogique. L’objectif de la réunion consiste à approfondir les capacités en matière de politique foncière en Afrique grâce à un meilleur accès aux connaissances et aux informations sur l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre de politiques foncières. Cette conférence fait suite à la deuxième conférence tenue en novembre 2017 à Addis-Abeba, en Éthiopie, à laquelle ont assisté près de 450 participants.

Knowledge management and learning is at the heart of the LAND-at-scale program. For this reason, RVO is excited to announce a partnership with LANDac and the International Land Coalition for the implementation of an integrated knowledge management component as part of the program.

In most countries, land inequality is growing. Worse, new measures and analysis published by the International Land Coalition show that land inequality is significantly higher than previously reported.

Ce séminaire sera l'occasion d'approfondir et de consolider les différentes questions soulevées dans les premières contributions proposées pour l'ouvrage collectif. Les participants auront l'occasion d'explorer en profondeur les questions fondamentales liées à la participation des citoyens à la gouvernance foncière, en mettant l'accent sur les défis spécifiques auxquels l'Afrique est confrontée. Les discussions approfondies permettront d'analyser les causes profondes des problèmes fonciers, d'identifier les lacunes des politiques publiques existantes et de formuler des propositions concrètes pour des réformes efficaces. Cet événement réunissant en outre divers experts ayant bénéficié d'un appui NELGA au niveau sous-régional, permettra en outre de mener des réflexions pour la mise en place d’un réseau NELGA Alumni.
