This Act makes provision for the protection of the environment, in particular of water resources, air and soil, in Papua New Guinea, establishes the Environment Council, defines functions and powers of the Director of Environment and provides for other matters relating to administration in relation with the provision of this Act.The Act specifies at the outset its objectives and how these objectives shall be achieved. It also defines matters of national importance in relation with the environment and a general environmental duty and prohibits the causing of environmental harm.

The purpose of this Directive is to achieve integrated prevention and control of pollution arising from certain industrial activities (those listed in Annex I), including energy and mineral industries, production and processing of metals, chemical industries and waste management. These provisions set out measures to prevent or reduce emissions into the air, water and land, without any prejudice to Directive 85/337/EEC and other relevant European Community provisions. The present Act lays down provisions relating to soil improvement in the Principality of Liechtenstein. Article 1 establishes that soil improvements are measures having the purpose to maintain, increase or restore the productivity of the soil, as well as to facilities its cultivation. In particular, the Act regulates the: a) consolidation of agricultural and forestry land; b) land re-allocation; c) other soil improvement measures; d) public contributions to soil improvement.
