Illegal and irregular allocations of public land were a common feature of the Moi regime and perhaps it’s most pervasive corrupt practice. The Ndung’u Report as well as various reports of the Public Investment Committee details numerous cases of public land illegal allocated to individuals and companies in total disregard of the law and public interest. Most allocations were made to politically correct individuals without justification and resulted in individuals being unjustly enriched at great cost to the people of Kenya.

Factors enhancing investment and farm capitalization in small holdings in Nigeria: Policy implications for transforming the agricultural sector

Small farm holdings require a substantial input of capital for transformation to medium or large-scale farms that are better suited to increased food output. The study examined methods and amounts of investment by small-holder farmers in southwestern Nigeria. Multistage sampling was used to randomly select 200 arable farmers from 20 LGAs distributed throughout five states in the region. Descriptive statistics and a multiple regression analysis were used to analyze data. The study showed that the average age of farmers was 46.5 years and that families were very large, averaging 10 members.

It is important to reclam degraded soils in forest nurseries to get quality planting material. Organic wastes and fertilizers on their base may be used for it. The aim of the research is to evaluate the effectiveness of influence of non-traditional fertilizers on the basis of organic waste on fertility of sod-podzolic soils, growth of seedlings and saplings of trees in forest nurseries. In the course of the research such problems as influence of non-conventional fertilizers on properties of sod-podzolic soils were studied.

Drainage and agriculture impacts on fire frequency in a southern Illinois forested bottomland

Postsettlement (1909-2003) fire history of a forested bottomland in the Mississippi Embayment of southern Illinois, USA, was determined using fire-scar analysis. The study area is a forested bottomland hardwood site, with remnant pockets of the dominant presettlement bald cypress - tupelo (Taxodium-Nyssa) vegetation. Ditch drainage was installed in 1919, with agricultural clearing and abandonment varying throughout the early and mid-twentieth century. Commercial agricultural activities ceased after the site became part of a conservation area ca. 1950.

Mowing of grasses and bush vegetation appear one of the most important technological operations while exploitation the roads, dams and ameliorative channels. For such activity agricultural or ameliorative multi-rotor mowers with joint knives are used. Multi-rotor mowers are characterized with high productivity and reliability along with complete cutting ability. Parameters of cutting devices are analyzed according the peculiarities of reclaimed land (among the peculiarities there are outlined unevenness and inclination of the relief).

Amelioration is one of the most important factors of agricultural production intensification and scientific and technical progress implementation. One third of agricultural production of the Republic of Belarus is produced on reclaimed lands. Closed horizontal drainage is the most wide-spread method of regulation of water and air regimes of soils in the conditions of intensive agriculture of the state. Successful application of drain-installing machines supplies increase of labor productivity, improvement of amelioration works and agricultural crops productivity increase.
