Les forêts méditerranéennes d’Algérie, Liban, Maroc, Tunisie et Turquie couvrent une superficie totale de près de 19 millions d’hectares. Ces forêts ont été et seront soumises de manière croissante à des pressions anthropiques (surpâturage, collecte de bois de chauffe, incendies, conversions agricoles, etc.) et aux effets dus au changement climatique (augmentation des températures et de la fréquence des événements extrêmes, diminution des précipitations, attaques parasitaires, etc.) Ainsi, des phénomènes de déforestation et de dégradation forestière sont observés.

The report is made up of eleven sections dedicated to the methodologies used, the availability of data, production figures, consumption figures, market circuits, pricing, supply and demand figures, main players, etc. Moreover, an evaluation of data collected is given as well as comments as to how to improve the overall statistics collection process.

An analysis of the present state of forest plantations and of current trends in plantation forestry both on a global basis and region-by-region. Economic and policy considerations in the development of plantation forestry are discussed. The outlook for plantation forestry is then presented in the form of alternative scenarios according to future growth in plantation area.
