Urbanization, climate change and water security: a study of vulnerability and adaptation in Sultanpur and Jhanjhrola Khera in peri-urban Gurgaon, India

This paper describes how urbanization and climate change shape water insecurity in two villages, Sultanpur and Jhanjhrola Khera in periurban Gurgaon in the North-West Indian state of Haryana. Using ethnographic and participatory approaches, it documents the people's lived experience of a changing climate and water insecurity. While urbanization and climate variability alter the availability of water, the effects of this are aggravated by a complex interaction of caste, class, gender and locational factors.

The Bill aimed at overriding old ordinances that dated back to the 1950s and 60s. The main objective of the Bill is that of decentralisation, and has three main points: the establishment of "authorized planning authorities" (APA); the consolidation of Townships Board and the Namibia Planning Advisory Board (NAMPAB) into one Urban and Regional Planning Board; and long term spatial development frameworks by means of a structure plan at all levels: national, regional, and urban.

Met het in de Vijfde Nota Ruimtelijke Ordening voorgestelde beleid, worden de waardevolle landschappen in Nederland de komende 20 jaar vooralsnog onvoldoende beschermd tegen de oprukkende verstedelijking. Bij continuering van de huidige trends en zonder aanvullend beleid gaat in 2020 door verstedelijking ruim 20␟an de waardevolle landschappen verloren. Met name landschappen in de Noordvleugel van de Randstad en de provincie Utrecht staan onder druk. Het kabinet stelt in de Vijfde Nota wel doelen voor het behoud van landschap en introduceert onder meer het instrument 'groene contouren'.

De langetermijngrondmarkteffecten van de ruimtelijke perspectieven Palet (geen ruimtelijke ordening) en Stedenland+ (huidige situatie met stedelijke ontwikkeling langs de internationale vervoersassen) lopen nogal uiteen. Zo is er in Palet sprake van een ongesegmenteerde grondmarkt met relatief hoge 'agrarische' grondprijzen in het landelijk gebied, van versnipperd grondgebruik en een hoge grondmobiliteit.
