La temática relativa a la tenencia y explotación de tierras está de nuevo a la orden del día. Así, son muchos los países que manifiestan un renovado interés por los diferentes modos de acceso a los recursos naturales en un marco de posibles reformas territoriales, ya sea en el contexto de la seguridad alimentaria, de la lucha contra la pobreza en el mundo, de la preservación del ambiente o de la calidad de la vida.

En 1999, la FAO publiait la première version française du Thésaurus multilingue du foncier. Cette version avait surtout pour vocation d'être mise à l'épreuve du terrain, c'est-à-dire soumise aux critiques constructives tant des usagers à la recherche d'informations et d'éclairages nouveaux que des experts du foncier. En effet, sur le fond comme sur la forme, sont apparus un certain nombre de points forts mais aussi des lacunes, relevés depuis 1999 par l'équipe des rédacteurs et par de nombreux autres spécialistes du foncier.

The present report gives the complete description of the preparation of a land use map and also the preparation of a national map of livestock intensity, needed as LUS input. The present method allows the preparation of a multi-country land use map in two weeks with the work of 13 experts, and is comparable to the continuous of 130 working days. Further to that, the LUS has been validated with the support of GIS consultants. The report details the work realised during the workshop describing the LUS preparation for the United Republic of Tanzania.

Los suelos saludables son un requisito previo básico para satisfacer las diversas necesidades de alimentos, biomasa (energía), fibra, forraje y otros productos, y para garantizar la prestación de los servicios ecosistémicos esenciales en todas las regiones del mundo. Sin embargo, la humanidad se enfrenta a presiones sin precedentes sobre el recurso suelo. En particular, diversos tipos de degradación -incluyendo el sellado debido a la rápida urbanización- está haciendo pagar un elevado peaje, amenazando la seguridad alimentaria y el equilibrio ecológico.

This publication is a revised and updated version of World Soil Resources Reports No. 84 and 103 and presents the international soil classification system. Every soil in the world can be allocated to one of the 32 Reference Soil Groups as defined in this document, and can further be characterized by a set of qualifiers. The resulting soil name provides information on soil genesis, soil ecological function and soil properties relevant for land use and management.

LADA (Land Degradation Assessment in Drylands project) is a scientifically-based approach to assessing and mapping land degradation at different spatial scales ? small to large ? and at various levels ? local to global. It was initiated in drylands, but the methods and tools have been developed so as to be widely applicable in other ecosystems and diverse contexts with minimal required adaptation.

Este Atlas proporciona información confiable y actualizada para el conocimiento de la cobertura del suelo en el Uruguay y el análisis de sus cambios a partir del año 2000. El objetivo del mismo es contribuir al monitoreo informado del territorio usando el Sistema de clasificación estandarizado LCCS (Land Cover Classification System) de FAO.

Under the current challenges of food security, climate change adaptation and mitigation, further provision of ecosystem services and sustainable intensification of agriculture, soil information becomes fundamental to guide wise policies and decisions. This document reviews the present availability of soil information from legacy maps and reports and from ongoing Digital Soil Mapping efforts. Currently, the soil science community is limited in its capacity to provide accurate and updated information to the different soil users.

The Eastern and Anglophone Western Africa Regional Assessment meeting was organized by a task force consisting of FAO, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, African Land Policy Initiative, the United Nations World Food Programme, United Nations Development Programme, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme officials in Ethiopia.
