This study presents an approach to analyzing decentralized forestry and natural resource management and land property rights issues, and catalyzing collective action among villages and district governments. It focuses on understanding the current policies governing local people's access to property rights and decision making processes, and learning how collective action among community groups and interaction among stakeholders can enhance local people's rights over lands, resources, and policy processes for development.
Characterization of preexisting flora is an essential preliminary step for successful land rehabilitation projects. This descriptive study was undertaken in a fragmented, dry tropical forest region in Panama. Five different habitat types were selected: active pasture, 2-yr and 5-yr abandoned pastures, forested riparian zones, and a forest fragment. Species richness, density, basal area, dispersal modes, and phenology of trees as well as their uses were determined.

Se trata de un caso de itinerancia de familias andinas a la región amazónica, específicamente en Tambopata, Madre de Dios, en el Perú, donde el acceso a la tierra determina no sólo su posibilidad de sostenerse, sino también la sostenibilidad del tejido comunitario que sirve de estrategia para enfrentar los embates de una Amazonía atravesada por el proyecto IIRSA y el proyecto modernizante Estatal.
En 2005, shiringueros del distrito de Iberia decidieron asociarse en ECOMUSA para extraer el látex sin perjudicar al bosque amazónico. En esta zona de Madre de Dios, Perú, la tala ilegal y el cambio de uso de la tierra amenazaban con desaparecer estas importantes áreas boscosas. El éxito asociativo: el Estado les entrega en concesión, en 2008, el manejo de 7,900 hectáreas de bosques productivos.
