Ascertainment of Boundaries Act (Cap. 180).

This Act concerns proceedings of the Supreme Court of Judicature to ascertain the boundaries of land held under any title or of any national land in case that there is any doubt as to the extent, identity, or boundaries of such land. Proceedings under this Act may be commenced or defended by any person (except those as specified in this Act) interested in any land which is or may be affected by the proceedings. Where national land is or may be so affected, whether directly or indirectly, proceedings may be taken by or against the Crown in accordance with the Crown Proceedings Act.

This Act concerns official survey of lands on order of the Commissioner of Lands or the Minister. It also establishes the Surveyors Licensing Board and provides for licensing of land surveyors. The Board shall keep a register of licensed surveyors. The Board may authorize the licensee to act as a land surveyor in any part of Uganda or to undertake only such land surveys as the Commissioner may, from time to time, in writing, specifically authorize.

This Act makes provision for the registration of land surveyors, quantity surveyors, building surveyors, mining and hydrological surveyors and valuation surveyors, as well as land agents and other professionals responsible for the management of land or buildings. It establishes the Surveyors Registration Board and defines its functions and powers. The Act also concerns public control on surveying practices. The Board shall regulate and control the profession of surveyors and the activities of registered surveyors within Uganda and advise the Government in relation to those functions.

Regional Act No. 18 implementing Act No. 440 of 4 August 1978: "Provisions on the use of uncultivated, abandoned and lands insufficiently cultivated".

The Regional Act regulates the reclamation of lands in order to: (a) protect the soil and the hydrogeological balance; (b) encourage the rational use of agricultural surfaces. Article 2 gives the definition, on the one hand, of uncultivated or abandoned lands and, on the other hand, of lands insufficiently cultivated.

This Code contains legal foundation of the all-round rational use and protection of subsoil, provides for safeguard of the interests of state and citizens of the Republic of Belarus as well as the rights of the users of subsoil. The document consists of XI Sections that contain 60 articles. Section I lays down the general provisions. Section II regards state regulation in the field of use and protection of subsoil.

The scope of Land Code shall be to regulate land relations originating from application of different types of land ownership rights, including duties of landowners, tenants, leaseholders, protection of land rights, application of rational land tenure, restoration and improvement of soil fertility, land re-cultivation and improvement of natural environment. Land property shall envisage public, municipal and private ownership, that have equal status and are equally protected by the Law (Art. 4).

This Law establishes the modalities of setting and keeping register of immovable property that ensures public acknowledgement of the right of ownership and other interests to immovable property, protection by the state of the aforesaid rights and support of taxation system and real estate market. Objects of registration shall be plots of land and servitude. Registration of the aforesaid objects shall be compulsory and it shall be carried out by the territorial cadastre offices.

The purpose of the present Law is to establish the legal basis for keeping state land cadastre, use of cadastre data for economic development, ensuring the right to the plots of land, rational use, rehabilitation and protection of land. State land cadastre is a basic component of the Common system of state cadastres and represents the system of data and documentation regarding natural, economic, legal characteristics of land, categories, qualitative aspect and value, location and size of the plots of land, distribution among the owners, leaseholders and landlords thereof.

The present Law establishes the legal basis for geodetic and cartographic activity. The objects of geodetic and cartographic activity are the national territory and outer space (art. 3). Geodetic and cartographic activity of governmental importance shall include: 1) creation, renewal and publication of topographic maps and plans; 2) distant zoning of the Earth; 3) demarcation and inspection of state boundaries (art. 6). Geodetic and cartographic activity shall be subject to licensing in conformity with the modalities established by Law (art. 13). The Law consists of 16 Articles.
