Urban growth modeling based on the multi-centers of the urban areas and land cover change in Yangon, Myanmar

Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar, is the major economic areas of the country. Also, the urban areas have significantly increased. However, Yangon has problems with disasters such as flood and earthquake. To support disaster risk management in Yangon, Myanmar, the estimation of urban expansion is required to understand the mechanism of urban expansion and predict urban areas in the future. This research proposed a methodology to develop urban expansion modeling based the dynamic statistical model using Landsat Time-Series and GeoEye Images.

The Sustainable Development Goal 15 “Life on land” commits world leaders to work together to achieve land degradation neutrality (LDN) for safeguarding life on land. One of the objectives that comprise LDN is to reinforce responsible governance of land tenure. Land rights are a key factor for achieving LDN. This publication by the UNCCD CSO Panel aims to analyze and highlight the linkages between land rights and land degradation with the objective of offering policy recommendations to enhance land rights for both the prevention of land degradation and the recovery of degraded lands.

Of great practical interest is the study of production potential of agricultural lands of agricultural organizations, the establishment of its impact on production results in crop breeding at the regional (oblast) level, where production and economic relations are closely tied. The results of such research will optimize agricultural land usage and improve specialization of agricultural production.

This paper attempts to understand the thoughts of the farmers and other residents in the Minamiyama area of Inagi at the respective time, taking into consideration the long history of development planning, changes in the use of land, and the land readjustment project that has been underway. Local farmers sold land in Minamiyama, operated real estate businesses, Land readjustment brought about by the City Planning Act helped the farmers.
