From the old times Lithuanian manors were the main centres of diplomacy, administration and culture. The applied land reforms, war and post-war periods and changing regimes altered the structures of the manors; their owners and users changed as well. The number of homesteads of manors and their territory highly decreased. During various periods of time more than 150 manors were present in the current territory of Panevėžys district municipality. The aim of the research is to analyse the land use of the least researched homesteads of former manors in 1923 and 2016.

The article analyses the changes of agricultural production development and the demand of rural planning in the post-reform period. The main aim of the research is to identify the problems of land use and the formation of farms as the territorial-production structures in Lithuania as well as to analyse the possibilities of finding solutions to them. Tendencies of the decrease of the number of rural residents and farms were determined, the regulation of which is possible by improving working and living conditions in rural areas by means of public support measures.

The agricultural census of 2015 indicated that the total area of abandoned farming land reached to 424,090 ha which accounts for nearly 10% of total farming land in Japan. However, little is known about economic, social, and geographical characteristics that lead farmers to leave their farming lands idle. Tobit and quantile regression analysis are used to identify the underlying factors and the promising countermeasures using community level data in the Tohoku region of Japan.

The land consolidation project of the parts of Vilkaviškis district municipality, Pilviškiai and Klausučiai elderates, Alksnėnai and Sūdava cadastral area is analysed in the article, the main indicators of the project, the meaning of land consolidation, the need to improve the order of the execution and implementation of these activities are described in the article. The survey was carried out to examine the opinion of the participants of the project regarding the advantages of the proceeding and results of the project as well as some of its drawbacks.

After the restitution, fragmented land makes East European countries difficult to produce cereal crops for commercial purposes. This paper attempts to analyze the institutional approach of Bulgaria to consolidate rental land into viable farm size for mechanization. It indicated effective use of machinery leading to high yield of crops. In addition, the approach has advantages to enable youth to join farming without capitals to acquire land and to retain opportunities for pensioners to return to their home villages.

This study analyzes a case which improved the utilization rate of arable land through production of rice for non-principal food. The main outcomes are as follows. Rice for non-principal food is produced jointly in Nagashima-cho by a lot of large-scale farmers. Land owners and cultivators have a share the advantage of eliminating ambiguity concerning the responsibility for mowing in summer. Dispersion of the agricultural workload, which is one of the benefits of rice production for non-principal food, doesn't generate profit to the degree which a large-scale farmer craves.

In this survey, the objective was to understand and evaluate the actual situation of competition over or sharing of resources and space between nomads and wild animals with regard to nomadic grazing within a national park. The subjects of the survey were the Rupshu Changpa (hereinafter referred to as Rupshupa), who move in the Rupshu area of the Ladakh region in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, and the Kiang (Equus kiang kiang), which inhabit the area around Tso Kar Lake in Rupshu.

The article presents the analysis of the Associations of Gardeners of Lithuania as well as the undergoing changes in their territories. The objective of the article is to discuss the current situation in the territories allocated to the amateur gardens and to assess the current issues concerning the land use and management. The associations of gardeners have encountered a great number of problems concerning the territorial planning, engineering communication services and services maintaining the needs of the associations, the expansion as well as development of these areas.

Impact of Estonian rural local governments’ capacity on the arable land use

The land use pattern is affected by different factors. One group of factors related to studies of land use change are socio-economics. The aim of the study is to test if the various indicators describing local government capacity have any impact on changes in arable land use. The study focuses on Estonian rural municipalities. The first task was determination of land use changes for the period 2009-2015. The GIS overlay technique was implemented for this. The second task was a correlation analysis among indicators of changes in arable land use and indicators of local government capacity.
