The National Food Production Action Plan is a strategic instrument, relating to the period 2012-2015, whose overall objective is to create a food secure nation. This plan sets national priorities and intends to create a platform for the Government and private sector to venture into strategic partnerships to mobilize and use available land and marine resources as well as labour, human resources and technologies to achieve food security.The document focuses on the development of six commodity groups, namely: staples, vegetables, legumes and pulses, fruits, livestock and aquaculture.In order to achieve the key goals for developing this sector, the Ministry of Food Production, Land and Marine Affairs shall provide an enabling environment that will facilitate the targeting of the selected commodities. The measures and action foreseen encompass the adoption of an infrastructure development programme, post-harvest technologies, water management and flood control, as well as the adoption of the following programmes: Land Distribution Programme; Agricultural Labour Programme; Young Professionals in Agriculture Development and Mentoring Programme; Agricultural Incentive Programme.The plan seeks to enable more inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems. Measures on extension services, creation of employment, market access, access to credit and investment opportunities are set out.
