The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Directive No. 10/1998/CT-TTg on stepping up and completing the assignment of land and the granting of agricultural land tenure certificates.
The Directive aims at accelerating and completing the allotment of land and the granting of agricultural land tenure certificates, which was enforced by Decree No. 64-CP of 27 September 1993. All organizations and individuals that have been assigned land by the State or are directly managing and using land for agricultural production, forestry, aquaculture or salt production but have not yet been granted land tenure certificates, shall have to declare and register the total land area they are using at the commune People's Committees for consideration and granting of certificates.
Ordonnance nº 98-777 portant dispositions particulières aux cessions à titre gratuit des terres appartenant au domaine privé de l'Etat en Guyane et modifiant le code du domaine de l'Etat (parti législative).
Cette ordonnance, complète l'article 91-1 du Code du domaine de l'Etat et ajoute les articles 91-4, 91-5 et 91-6. Ces dispositions sont relatives aux cessions à titre gratuit des terres appartenant au domaine privé de l'Etat en Guyane, en faveur des personnes qui les ont exploitées à des fins exclusivement agricoles et qui s'engagent à les maintenir à cet usage pendant 30 ans à compter de la date de transfert de propriété.
Decree No. 791 relative to planning of the use of fertilising substances.
According to provisions of this Decree users of arable land shall be responsible to prepare a plan for the use of fertilizing substances for the upcoming planting season in each year or a plan for a longer term in the case of use of animal manure or extensive cultivation. Such plan shall contain various indications on the required use of fertilizers. The scope of this planning is to secure an effective and rational use of fertilizing substances also for reasons of environment protection.
Act No. 7.661 establishing National Planning for Coastal Zone Management.
This Act establishes National Planning for Coastal Zone Management. It consists of 13 articles laying down competencies and duties of the aforementioned national administration. It also lists sanctions to be paid by offenders in case of environmental areas pollution, according to article 14 of Act No. 6.938.
