This Act establishes the Tonga Electric Power Board as a body corporate, defines its functions and powers and provides with respect to its organization. This Act repeals the Tonga Electric Power Board Act (CAP.93) and provides rules of transition in relation with such repeal. Notwithstanding the repeal, at the date of coming into operation of this Act any licence granted under the Tonga Electric Power Board Act (CAP. 93) shall continue to be valid on such terms and conditions of approval for the period stipulated therein.

This Act amends the Government Act (Cap. 3) by repealing sections 17(4), 20 and 25.It also provides that all subsidiary legislation made under the Principal Act and in force immediately before the coming into force of this Act, so far as it is consistent with the provisions of the Public Service Act 2002, shall continue in force as if made under that Act.

These Regulations require any alien desiring to reside upon or to occupy any land, or to reside in or occupy any house that is the property of a Tongan subject, to apply beforehand to the Minister for Lands for a permit.
