Regional Training: Enhancing Open Access to Knowledge, Information and Data in the Mekong

By Nghia Le Trung, Chairman of the Advisory Council, National Center for Research and Development of Open Technologies (RDOT), Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam

In February 2017, from the  26th to 28th, in Yangon, Myanmar, a regional training on ‘Enhancing Open Access to Knowledge, Information and Data in The Mekong’ was organized by Land Portal and Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG), with participants from Vietnam, Laos and the host country Myanmar.

During the training course, teams from the countries exchanged their daily experiences on building, implementing and managing geo-partial systems, especially concerning land data management and its relations with other important fields, such as economic development, water, environment resources protection and climate change, among others.

The course helped each participant and country team to acknowledge the increasing better about benefits, opportunities and challenges that open data and linked open data with their related technologies could present, especially for the sustainable development of each country in the Mekong region.

Importantly, the course opened up opportunities for collaboration and cooperation on  open data and land and linked open databetween countries not only in the Mekong region, but the world.

We do hope the opportunities will be realized soon.
