This toolbox is based on materials developed for the International Land Coalition's project in Eastern and Southern Africa entitled "Securing Women's Access to Land: Linking Research and Action". The core of this project was action-oriented research carried out by partners in seven countries with a view to using research results in advocacy. The capacity-building activities to support partners included advocacy workshops on which this toolbox is based.

In 2004, FAO, IFAD, and the International Land Coalition (ILC) jointly published a report on progress towards the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), with respect to the status of rural women. This report provided an historical background to CEDAW and its Optional Protocol (OP 1999) as well as an overview on land issues as reflected in the reports submitted by States Parties.

El presente estudio recoge una serie de experiencias de acceso, uso y control efectivo de la tierra y los recursos naturales por parte de mujeres, poniendo el énfasis en las estrategias organizativas y asociativas empleadas, y visibilizando a las mujeres como protagonistas de estos procesos y como agentes de cambio. El análisis de estas estrategias permite extraer herramientas y "buenas prácticas" que permitan impulsar un mayor acceso y control de las mujeres sobre la tierra, desde las organizaciones que actualmente trabajan en la temática de los derechos de la tierra.

This is the second in a series of land studies for northern Uganda, whose core objective is to inform the Plan for Recovery and Development of Northern Uganda (PRDP) and the National Land Policy. It builds on the work of the first phase conducted in Teso region to present a more quantitative analysis of trends on disputes and claims on land before displacement, during displacement and emerging trends or occurrences on return for Acholi and Lango sub-regions.
