En la Situación de los bosques del mundo se facilita información sobre la situación actual de los bosques del mundo, como se desprende del título, pero también se analizan los principales acontecimientos institucionales y de política, las tendencias futuras en las actividades forestales y los factores externos que influyen en el sector.

The study conducted by FAO and partners in South and Southeast Asia was based on an analysis of forest tenure according to two variables: the type of ownership, and the level of control of and access to resources. It aimed to take into account the complex combination of forest ownership − whether legally or customarily defined − and arrangements for the management and use of forest resources. Forest tenure determines who can use what resources, for how long and under what conditions.

The State of the World's Forests reports every two years on the status of forests, recent major policy and institutional developments and key issues concerning the forest sector. The purpose of the publication is to provide current, reliable and policy-relevant information to policy-makers, foresters and other natural resource managers, academics, forest industry and civil society.

The Expert Consultation on Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management (ECCI-2004) was organized by the Forest Management Bureau of the Philippines, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the International Tropical Timber Organization and convened in Cebu City, Philippines, from 2 to 4 March 2004. The Forest Management Bureau of the Philippines hosted the meeting.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and its partners will hold consultations on various issues relating to the voluntary guidelines on responsible governance of tenure of land and other natural resources. The voluntary guidelines aim to provide practical guidance for State governance bodies, civil society and the private sector. The voluntary guidelines will provide a basis, which interested parties can use when developing their strategies and activities.

This thematic study provides a review and description of the trends in development of forest related legislation in a selected range of Asia-Pacific countries. The paper stresses the importance of often neglected factors in policy formulation such as the need for clear property rights, the significance of fuelwood supply, the correct identification of affected parties and the accurate valuation of intangible benefits. The need for better resource information and the correct pricing of forest products are also seen as important in promoting sustainable forest management in the region
