Once heralded by both liberals and socialists as a tool for Dutch municipal governments to prevent land speculation and to implement spatial policies, a century later the Dutch ground lease (erfpacht) is now despised by many. The ground lease was the subject of strong debate in the recent past and is likely to remain so. It has been argued that lessees should have the right to become owner of the land, and this ‘right to buy’ has indeed been implemented in the land policies of several municipalities. The Dutch urban ground lease seems to be under serious pressure.

This report is an impact evaluation of the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Justice Project, which was implemented by Landesa and its prime contractor Tetra Tech ARD, to pilot an approach for improving women’s access to justice, particularly related to women’s land rights, by enhancing the customary justice system in one target area: Ol Pusimoru sub-location, Mau Forest, Kenya.

The Voluntary Guidelines for the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries, and Forests in the Context of National Food Security discuss the importance of recognizing "legitimate land rights." But what does that mean and who determines which rights are "legitimate?"

Women need secure access to and control of land in order to realise their human rights. In order for the women to realise their land and inheritance rights it is important for the policy makers to have in place mechanisms and institutions to guide practice. This report sets out the status of women’s land and inheritance rights in Lesotho. The aim is to provide a consolidated baseline which can inform policy making, implementation and monitoring.

The webinar on the Gender Imperatives of Land Reforms in Kenya took place on 23 April, 2019.

This webinar featured key experts involved in promoting and working towards the gender imperatives of land reforms in Kenya. It was co-hosted by the European Union, the Government of Kenya, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Land Portal Foundation.

This Act, consisting of 40 sections, makes provisions with respect to land tenure rights, conveyance of lands, easements, transfer of land, leases, mortgages, foreign governments right to own land and various other matters relative to the registration of titles, use of land rights, transfer of land, etc.

La presente Ley establece los principios y reglas generales para la conservación de los suelos en la Provincia. Se faculta a la Dirección de Agropecuaria, Bosques e Industrias a adoptar las medidas necesarias para asegurar la conservación de los suelos y el mantenimiento de su capacidad productiva.

Esta Ley regula las acciones estatales y privadas tendientes a la conservación, mejoramiento y recuperación de la capacidad productiva del suelo de la provincia.

La presente Ley establece normas tendientes al control y prevención de todo proceso de degradación de los suelos; a la recuperación, habilitación y mejoramiento de las tierras para la producción; y a la promoción de la educación conservacionista. El objetivo es asegurar los medios para adecuar la utilización de la tierra, conforme a su aptitud, manteniendo el equilibrio de los ecosistemas de manera de evitar el deterioro de la economía provincial y teniendo en cuenta las posibilidades reales y efectivas de los usuarios.
