MODIS NDVI Modified Z-score for Evaluating Drought Incidence of Rice Areas in the Mekong Delta

Décembre, 2022
Philippines

Extreme climate events such as flood, drought, and high temperature are expected to increase in frequency and intensity with climate change. Mapping and characterization of food production areas at risk can help in better targeting innovations and in enhancing the resilience of affected communities.

Organogenesis versus somatic embryogenesis pathway efficiencies in in vitro propagation of white and water yams

Décembre, 2022
Global

The primary goal of this study was to compare the multiplication rates of yam varieties propagated through organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis (SE). Callus was induced from axillary bud explants of three genotypes of Dioscorea rotundata (Asiedu, Ekiti2a, and Kpamyo) and two genotypes of Dioscorea alata (Swaswa and TDa2014) cultured in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing 9.1 µM 2,4-dichlorophenoxylacetic acid and 5.4 µM naphthaleneacetic acid. Plantlets were regenerated in MS containing 4.4 µM benzylaminopurine and 34 µM uniconazole-P through SE.

RNAseq of diverse spring wheat cultivars released during last 110 years

Décembre, 2022
Global

Here, we performed RNA-seq based expression analysis of root and leaf tissues of a set of 24 historical spring wheat cultivars representing 110 years of temporal genetic variations. This huge 130 tissues RNAseq dataset was initially used to study expression pattern of 97 genes regulating root growth and development in wheat. Root system architecture (RSA) is an important target for breeding stress-resilient and high-yielding wheat cultivars under climatic fluctuations.

Reaching smallholder women with information services and resilience strategies to respond to climate change

Décembre, 2022
United States of America

The project Reaching Smallholder Women with Information Services and Resilience Strategies to Respond to Climate Change aimed to increase the climate resilience of poor women and men farmers in Africa south of the Sahara and South Asia — especially those in Kenya, Uganda, and India — by overcoming the gendered information gap on accessing climate-smart agricultural (CSA) approaches. The project did this through piloting participatory video-based extension on CSA approaches with more than 30,000 farmers in the three countries.

Analyzing crop price dynamics in Nalanda, Bihar: An in-depth analysis of twenty agricultural commodities

Décembre, 2022
India

In this study, we investigated market integration and price transmission dynamics in agricultural supply chains in Nalanda, Bihar, focusing on twenty commodities. We utilized daily price data from Noorsarai and Harnaut village markets, the Bihar Sharif intermediate market, and the Patna City market with the aim of understanding the interrelationships among these prices. Our findings suggest that most crop prices tend to vary concurrently, necessitating adjustments for improved precision and accuracy in price assessments.

Innovation packages and scaling readiness workshop for smallholder famers mechanization starter pack, Zimbabwe: An activity report

Décembre, 2022
Zimbabwe

The smallholder mechanization starter pack is an innovation pioneered and developed by CIMMYT’s mechanization team in Zimbabwe. This tool was born out of necessity to alleviate farm power shortage faced by smallholder farmers and farming communities, offering a low-cost mechanization option centered on two-wheel tractor and small engine driven machinery pack. The pack is meticulously tailored to enhance land and labour productivity, improve timeliness of agricultural operations, reduce production cost, and eliminate human drudgery.

Feasibility of implementing a Risk-Contingent Credit (RCC) program in Zambia: Stakeholder engagement

Décembre, 2022
Zambia

Changes in frequency and intensity of climate and weather events are a key challenge to agricultural production among farmers in Zambia. Climate variability reduces farm productivity, which in turn contributes to household food insecurity, income variability, and reduced overall economic growth. Using improved technologies such as mechanization, improved seed varieties, irrigation, and fertilizer can improve climate resilience and farm production among smallholder farmers.
