Global Land Governance and Policy Forum
The Global Land Governance and Policy Forum brought together a diverse coalition of international stakeholders to address the pressing challenges of tenure security and land governance. This inaugural high-level event, organized at the World Bank Land Conference, aimed to amplify global efforts under the informal campaign of the ‘Global Land Agenda,’ which advocates for formal structures to support a more coordinated approach to land governance. The forum focused on three main objectives: underscoring the critical role of secure tenure and effective land governance for economic, environmental, and social development; offering a platform for countries to present their achievements in scaling and funding land governance reforms; and disseminating technical solutions to guide capacity building and practical implementation. The discussions were structured around three panels. The first panel featured government representatives sharing successful strategies for advancing land governance, highlighting case studies from Sierra Leone, Indonesia, Colombia, and Georgia. The second panel emphasized inclusivity, showcasing initiatives that foster equitable land access and governance, with contributions from civil society, Indigenous groups, and regional organizations. The third panel explored the intersection of climate action and land management, examining how tenure security contributes to climate resilience, with insights from global environment experts and policy makers. The forum concluded with reflections on the achievements and future directions of the Global Land Agenda, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to close the gap in global progress on sustainable land governance, aligned with Sustainable Development Goals and other key targets.
