The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Real Property Regulations.

These Regulations, consisting of 11 sections completed by one Schedule, prescribe forms for purposes of Real Property Act. Furthermore provision is made for the sale of real property pursuant to a statutory charge and the attestation of execution of instruments by individuals. The Schedule contains a table of forms including forms relative to variation of priority, grant of easement, transfer of land, grant of right of way, lease, sub-lease, caveat compulsory acquisition, application to amend survey, sale pursuant statutory charge.

These rules amend the Land Registration Rules 1925 so as to: (a) make provision for new forms of transfer, assent and discharge of part, new forms of transfer and assent of a registered charge affecting part of the land in a registered title and new forms of transfer for a portfolio of titles; (b) make provision for new forms of application to cancel notice of an unregistered lease or rentcharge, to register a caution against dealings with a registered title, to withdraw a caution and to place documents on deposit; (c) make associated amendments to certain existing prescribed forms.

Subject to this Part and to any provision to the contrary in a law of the Territory, a person shall not enter onto or remain on Aboriginal land or use a road unless he has been issued with a permit to do so in accordance with this Part (sect. 4). An Aboriginal who is entitled by Aboriginal tradition to enter onto an area of Aboriginal land may enter onto that area of Aboriginal land. An Aboriginal who is entitled by Aboriginal tradition to remain on an area of Aboriginal land may remain on that area of Aboriginal land.

Lands Acquisition Act.

The Act, consisting of 96 sections divided into eleven Parts and completed by two Schedules, makes provision for the procedures of acquisition of land by the Territory and the establishment of the Lands Acquisition Tribunal and regulates the proceedings of the Tribunal.

Environment Protection (Alligator Rivers Region) Act 1978.

There shall be a Supervising Scientist for the Alligator Rivers Region (sect. 4). Functions of Supervising Scientist in relation to uranium mining in the Region are described in section 5, whereas section 5A describes functions of Supervising Scientist in relation to general mining in a conservation zone. "Conservation zone" means a conservation zone declared under section 8A of the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1975. An Advisory Committee is established under section 16 and a Technical Committee under section 22.
