Location

The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Decision No. 420 of the Council of Ministers about the regulation of land use as personal plots and for horticulture ('Dacha' purposes), 1991.

It is decided that land plots alloted to citizens of the Republic of Armenia shall be considered as their property from March 15, 1991 (art. 1). The Decree further regulates plots of land alotted for 'dacha' purposes, i.e. personal plots used for horticulture.

Land areas of collective farms and of inter-collective farm organizations which are under the jurisdiction of the agricultural organization of Yerevan are leased for farming (art. 1). It further provides for, inter alia, the lease of livestock and rent.

Decree No. 178 about establishing the maximum number of individual lots to be allocated as property for operating a farm, 1991.

The 7 articles regulate the National Land Cadastre. It is maintained and systematic surveys on the status of the land are conducted by the State Institute for Design "Armgiprozem" for the timely exposure, assessment, prevention and abolition of the effects of any negative phenomena (art.2,3). The Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for, inter alia, the registration of land-owners and land-users. The Decree further stipulates duties of land-owners and land-users relating to the timely and up-to-date registration in the Cadastre.
