The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

The Ordinance consists of 19 articles that are divided into three Parts: Preliminary (I); Subdivision (II) and Utilization (III). No person may subdivide any land to which this Act applies except in accordance with the provisions contained in the Act. Part III empowers the Minister to make regulations for the better utilization of land regarding, inter alia, the prohibition of land clearing within demarcated catchment areas, measures to prevent soil erosion, restrictions on construction and the demarcation of special development areas.

The Order, which contains 4 articles and a Schedule, declares the areas specified in the Schedule as planning areas for the purposes of the principal Act. The Order also prescribes some procedural requirements for the application for a development permission.

Town and Country Planning (General Development) Order, 1980 (Chapter 32:09).
The Order (22 articles, 2 Schedules) regulates the application and granting of planning permissions. Planning permission means the permission required under Part IV of the principal Act for any development of land carried out in a planning area. The two Schedules contain the classification of developments (first) and fees (second).

Town and Country Planning (Transfer of Planning Functions) Order, 1980.
