The purpose of the present Act and orders of the Governor in Council made pursuant to this Act is to bring into effect self-government agreements concluded with First Nations. The Act deals, inter alia, with the following issues: First Nations constitutions, First Nations Laws, administration of justice, laws of general application, disposition of reserve lands, transitional provisions. The text consists of 40 sections and 3 Schedules as follows: Yukon First Nations (I); First nations having self-government agreements in effect (II); Legislative powers (III).

The present Act – consisting of 1 section – confirms and ratifies the Agreement – contained in the Schedule - between the Government of Canada and the Government of the Province of New Brunswick respecting Indian Reserves. For the purpose of the present Agreement “patented lands” means those tracts of land in the Province in respect of which Canada accepted surrenders of their rights and interests therein from the Indians entitled to the use and occupation thereof and in respect of which grants were made by Letters Patent issued under the Great Seal of Canada.

The present Act consists of 2 sections and 1 Schedule containing an Agreement between the government of Canada and the government of the Province of Manitoba on transfer of control over Crown lands and natural resources to Manitoba. The Agreement deals with the following issues: transfer of public lands generally, school lands funds and school lands, water, fisheries, Indian reserves, national parks, seed, grain, general reservation to Canada, historic sites, birds, sanctuaries, financial terms.

Nunavut Waters and Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal Act (S.C. 2002, c. 10).

Together with the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, the present Act establishes the Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal. The Tribunal is responsible for regulating entry and access to lands, for determining rights of, and compensation payable to, the titleholder and for determining the amount for wildlife compensation claims in the Nunavut Settlement Area. Section 14 establishes the Nunavut Water Board.

A major piece of legislation to organize boundaries and administration of the Northwest Territories., and in particular of aboriginal peoples. For the purpose of the present Act “Agreement” means the Northwest Territories Lands and Resources Devolution Agreement that was made on 25 June 2013. “Aboriginal party” means an Aboriginal organization that is a party to the Agreement. Section 4 establishes that a Commissioner of the Northwest Territories must be appointed by order of the governor in Council.

The purposes of the present Act are to enable the Sechelt Indian Band to establish and maintain self-government for itself and its members on Sechelt lands and to obtain control over and the administration of the resources and services available to its members. Section 5 establishes that the Sechelt Indian Band is hereby established to replace the Indian Act Sechelt Band.
