General distribution potential agricultural areas of Samsun province and importance of soil survey and mapping

Policy Papers & Briefs
Décembre, 2011

Recently, studies on land consolidation and valuation in farm lands have became more important due to a new soil conservation law (2005, 5403 numbered) and European Union Integration processes in our country. However, each soil group determined by morphometric system in agricultural lands have its own land use and management practices. Description and determination of soil properties are not sufficiently made by considering old soil classification system. Nowadays, Soil Taxonomy preferred by many countries in the world has been used for soil classification.

Comparison of soil maps with different scales and details belonging to the same area

Policy Papers & Briefs
Janvier, 2008
Turquie

Two different soil maps prepared by different institutes at scales of 1:200 000 and 1:25 000 covering identical areas were compared to determine the accuracy of reconnaissance. These soil maps are widely used in land resources assessment studies in Turkey. They were digitized and then the map layers were compared by using GIS technology in order to assess soil properties and land characteristics. The reconnaissance soil map at the scale of 1:200 000 has the highest accuracy for the slope.

Land-use/land-cover dynamics in Chiang Mai: Appraisal from remote sensing, GIS and modelling approaches

Policy Papers & Briefs
Août, 2006
Thaïlande

Remotely-sensed images and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data were integrated into the SLEUTH cellular automata (CA) model to analyze land-use/land-cover dynamics in Chiang Mai city and its surrounds. The land-use and land-cover statistics, obtained from GIS data base and satellite images from 1952, 1977, 1989 and 2000 revealed rapid increased in urbanization during these periods. To understand the underlying causes of land-use and land-cover dynamics, remote sensing, GIS and modeling techniques were applied.

Development of a cartographic mdel for the forest site types delineation in the Belgian Ardenne. The paper presents an original method dealing with the forest site types delineation. The suggested method consists in integrating a typological key in a GIS aiming at producing a thematic map that describes forest site types. Data used are the soil map of Belgium (digitized at the scale 1:20,000) and a digital elevation model built from a topographic map (scale 1:10,000). The typological key is mainly based on the methodology used by Thill et al.

Preparing and analyzing the thematic map layers of great soil groups, erosion classes and land capability classes of Tokat province by GIS

Policy Papers & Briefs
Décembre, 2013
Turquie

In this study, great soil groups, erosion classes and land capability classes of Tokat province were digitized and analyzed by using geographic information systems (GIS). Settlements, bare rocky areas and water surfaces like reservoirs or lakes were excluded from the evaluation.

Soil organic carbon under different landscape attributes in croplands of Northeast China

Policy Papers & Briefs
Octobre, 2008
Chine

Soil organic carbon (SOC) was measured in topsoil samples of agricultural soils from 311 locations of Jiutai County, Northeast China. The spatial characteristics of SOC were studied using the Geographic Information Systems and geostatistics. Effects of other soil physical and chemical properties, elevation, slope, soil type and land use type were explored. SOC concentrations followed a lognormal distribution, with a geometric mean of 1.50%. The experimental variogram of SOC was fitted with an exponential model.

A study on determination of agricultural use suitability of agricultural lands

Policy Papers & Briefs
Décembre, 2007
Turquie

In this study, by using cellular analyze method according to ecological criteria, the determination of agricultural land suitability of Research and Practice Farm of Ankara University Agrucultural Faculty Farm and Haymana Research Farm of Central Research Institute for Field Crops lands, which are in Ankara province and Haymana district, was aimed. For this aim, by using Geographical Information Systems(GIS) techniques, the data layers such as some soil properties, topography and irrigation was examined for each land criterion to determine the weighted scale.
