The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Law No. 1559-VI “On expropriation of land plots in private ownership for public needs”.

This Law establishes legal, organizational and financial principles of regulation of social relations dealing with expropriation of land plots in private ownership for public needs. Expropriation shall be performed through buy-out and payment of compensation to the owners of expropriated land plots. Expropriation and buy-out shall be performed in accordance with the acting legislation. Buy-out price shall include inconvenience and losses of the owner of the plot of land subject to expropriation and land price shall be fixed by the local self-government.

The present Ordinance implements the Saxon Land Survey Law of 29 January 2008. In particular, the Ordinance lays down provisions relating to costs incurred in land surveying. The text consists of 8 articles.

The scope of Land Code shall be to regulate land relations originating from application of different types of land ownership rights, including duties of landowners, tenants, leaseholders, protection of land rights, application of rational land tenure, restoration and improvement of soil fertility, land re-cultivation and improvement of natural environment. Land property shall envisage public, municipal and private ownership, that have equal status and are equally protected by the Law (Art. 4).
