Mongolie

La Mongolie est un grand pays enclavé de 157 millions d'hectares, bordé par la Russie au nord et la Chine sur tous les autres côtés. Il est situé sur de hauts plateaux, avec une altitude moyenne de 1 580 m au-dessus du niveau de la mer, et plus de 80 % du pays se trouve au-dessus de 1 000 m. Alors qu'une grande partie du paysage dans la partie sud du pays est caractérisée par des déserts rocheux, notamment le désert de Gobi, et des steppes semi-arides herbeuses, avec peu de forêts, il existe également d'importantes chaînes de montagnes dans les parties ouest, centrale et nord du pays. Les zones écologiques comprennent les zones de montagne alpine, la taïga, la steppe forestière, la steppe, la steppe désertique et le désert. Avec un peu plus de 3,2 millions d'habitants en 2019, la Mongolie est le pays le moins densément peuplé du monde. Pourtant, il existe de nombreux défis environnementaux liés à la désertification, au surpâturage des prairies et aux impacts du changement climatique.
