Mhd Ekbal Anak earned his PhD from the Faculty of Law, Damascus University on a critical theme: the legal protection of internally displaced persons. He also graduated with an Executive Master’s degree in Development Policies and Practices as a member of the first cohort of the Middle East and North Africa Region, delivered in partnership with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He additionally holds a Master’s Degree in Public Law, and two bachelor’s degrees in Law and Translation, from Damascus University. The Directorate of Intellectual Property and Author’s Rights, Syrian Ministry of Culture granted Mhd Ekbal two patents for his research. Ekbal instructed the Legal English language modules at Al-Sham Private University in Damascus for two years. He is currently working for the United Nations in Damascus. His research interests include legal frameworks for climate change, housing, land and property rights and humanitarian programming. Mhd Ekbal is a core member of the Middle East Research Network on Internal Displacement (MERNID) and a Research Affiliate, hosted at the Refugee Law Initiative (RLI), School of Advanced Study, University of London.
