Participatory engagement of communities is key to establish clearer understanding of existing challenges, collectively identify plausible solutions, and to ensure sustainable adoption of innovative technologies and practices. Community Conversations (CCs) offer unique opportunities to facilitate dialogue among groups of a community and key local government and research institutions on selected topics of interest.

This report presents the RE-IMAGINE research in one of its four regions: Southeast Asia. RE-IMAGINE builds on climate foresight expertise of the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Program and analyses the role of foresight in climate governance across the globe. Anticipating the possible impacts of climate change has become a key global focus. Scenarios and many other methods and tools are used today to imagine climate futures and develop strategies for realizing new futures while governing climate change.

Irrigation is increasingly being called upon to help stabilize and grow food and water security in the face of multiple crises; these crises include climate change, but also recent global food and energy price crises, including the 2007/08 food and energy price crises, and the more recent crises triggered by the COVID 19 pandemic and the war on Ukraine.

This document reports on preliminary findings from a household survey conducted in Meru County under the auspices of the Innovation for African Climate Risk Insurance (INACRI). The project aims to develop an improved crop insurance index that addresses basis risk inter alia for small scale maize farmers. The goal of the household survey was to assess farmer’s production risks, crop insurance needs and willingness to adopt crop insurance. We also assess farmer’s financial and insurance literacy as a robustness check for their preferences for insurance.

This document is developed to inform key agricultural stakeholders working in Myanmar about the importance of climate information in enhancing the resilience of the agriculture sector to the impact of climate change. The report is divided into three main parts: i) an overview of climate risks and their impact on Myanmar agriculture; ii) an existing climate information service based on main climate services pillars from generation, translation, dissemination, and use; and iii) areas for further investment and support for scaling out the activities in the future.

Foresight planning allows governments to construct development narratives of their desired futures and can help policymakers to better frame future policy environments. In this light, foresight can be used to influence SADC’s regional and member state strategies and policy development to ultimately enhance climate-resilient development pathways, including through the use of scenario-guided policy making, strategic planning, regional prioritisation and other foresight approaches.

Tanzania is the major sunflower producer in the East Africa region. It has a market dominance of
78%, followed by Uganda (21%). It is an important cash crop in Tanzania and has been attributed to
the low cost of production relative to other oilseeds. Moreover, sunflower accounts for 35% of
oilseeds produced in the United Republic of Tanzania. Sunflower variety grown in Tanzania has been
characterized as resistant to drought conditions and low susceptibility to diseases and pests.

The CGIAR is the leading global agriculture research institution working towards creating sustainable agricultural practices a reality through research and innovation. The CGIAR 2030 Research and Innovation Strategy states that the “CGIAR will contribute to collective global targets for transformation of food, land, and water systems across local, regional, and global levels.

The Vietnamese Mekong Delta is responsible for half of the country’s rice production. This is possible due to abundant freshwater resources available for agriculture. This report provides a general overview of water resources in the region, presents unique water-related challenges using earth observation data, and description of measures to address them. Structurally, section one provides a general introduction followed by description of surface water resources, its uses and dynamics. Section three contains information on water infrastructure in the region.
