The evaluation function of the Independent Advisory and Evaluation Services (IAES), is executing the 2024 evaluations of the three Science Groups (SGs)—Systems Transformation (ST), Resilient Agrifood Systems (RAFS), and Genetic Innovation (GI). The evaluation Terms of Reference (TORs), which are endorsed by the Strategic Impact, Monitoring, and Evaluation Committee (SIMEC) and build on the Concept Note, are presented to the CGIAR System Council (SC19) as a pre-read.

CGIAR centers invest in technological and institutional innovations, partnerships, capacity development, and policy engagement to contribute to Rwanda’s agricultural transformation. This catalogue describes a series of proven livestock technologies that promote increased productivity and transformation of small ruminant production in Africa. It is developed through a collaborative effort from the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) Program that seeks to increase stakeholder use of proven agricultural technologies, and its Small Livestock Compact project partners.

This project is based on a request from the Pan African Farmers Organisation members developed during the succession of continental briefings examining their capacity building needs and policy issues between 2012 and 2016 in the following steps: Using a discussion forum amongst the more than 200 members, they identified a number of successful farmers organisations requiring support for capacity development. A study was then carried out by the ZED group together with a further e-discussion to establish the needs to improve financial management.

The working paper reviews the evolution of the CCAFS gender and social inclusion agenda towards gender equality and empowerment in relation to climate resilient agriculture. Climate change research typically shows glaring gaps in understanding the different adaptive strategies and capacities of men and women, and the technologies, practices, and enabling environments that will empower women.

CTA and SPC have a long working relationship spanning over 15 years. In 2012, CTA commenced
an evaluation of the work it had undertaken with several partners such as SPC in the ACP region.

The Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) Project builds on the initiatives and achievements under the CGIAR Research Program on the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) in Africa. With a focus on climate-smart agriculture (CSA) technologies and on climate information services (CIS), the AICCRA project includes an important capacity development component for the benefit of six (6) countries in Africa.

Achieving gender equality in irrigation can result in greater production, income, and job opportunities for both men and women smallholder farmers from diverse social groups, while building climate resilience in sub-Saharan Africa. In Ethiopia, national irrigation agencies, donors, and researchers have been assisting project implementers to mainstream gender issues into the planning and implementation of irrigation programs.

This paper provides an inventory of novel approaches to and mechanisms for quality assurance of the seeds of vegetatively produced crops (VPCs). It explores to what extent seven African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia) are decentralising and integrating VPC seed systems, in terms of regulations governing the sector, methods of seed production, and methods of seed inspection and certification. It consolidates existing data and presents new data on decentralised seed quality assurance (SQA) approaches for VPCs in these seven selected countries.
