The Summer School on “Land Governance and Development” jointly organised by the School of Public Policy and Governance of Azim Premji University, Bangalore and NRMC-Center for Land Governance (An Intellecap Subsidiary),  will take place in Bhubaneshwar from 20-25 June 2022 at the Azim Premji University Campus, Bangalore.

Secure tenure rights and equitable access to land, fisheries and forests are critical means of eradicating hunger and poverty, supporting sustainable development and enhancing the environment.

2021 was a year of big promises concerning tenure rights. At COP26, an unprecedented 1.7 billion dollar pledge was made in support of ancestral community land rights, aiming to place IPLCs rights central to global policy-making and discourse. The questions remain; when and how funding will reach communities and how it will be used effectively.

Piloting the Open Up Guide for Land Governance in Senegal

The stakeholder workshop, which will take place with select stakeholders in Dakar, will introduce the first phase of the "Open Up Guide for Land Governance" project in Senegal; identify networks and stakeholders in the open land data sector; and increase awareness regarding open data in the land sector.

As the world is dealing with a pandemic, its repercussions are being reflected in India as well, along with an economic crisis and mass reverse migration which has significantly impacted the lives and livelihoods of people, ILDC2021 invites attention to the relevance of land security, in inclusive and sustainable development with inbuilt resilience to future shocks.

This webinar confronted the reality that Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities' land rights are greatly underfunded, despite these territories being key to global environmental health services. According to a 2021 study by Rainforest Foundation Norway, from 2011 to 2020 less than 1% of climate cooperation funds were allocated to forest management or to legalize indigenous territories, and in the past 10 years only 0,017% of all climate cooperation funds mention an indigenous organization in the implementation.
