The Center for Development Research (ZEF) is an institute of the University of Bonn, Germany. It started its research activities in 1997. ZEF's researchers aim to find science-based solutions to development-related issues. The Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE) is an economic research centre within the Department of Economics at Oxford University.

CSAE carries out economic research with a particular focus on Africa. Its aim is to improve economic and social conditions in the poorest societies. IFM is a social science research and advisory centre working with fisheries and marine management and coastal community development. In particular, IFM focuses on questions of governance within an ecosystem-based approach to marine management. IFM is specialised in crossdisciplinary collaboration and is frequently teaming up with institutions/colleagues from other disciplines in order to develop suitable solutions to the problems in question.

ICLARM, the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management, is a relative newcomer to the small group of mission-oriented research organizations concerned with international fisheries. It was organized in 1975 and incorporated in 1977 in the Philippines where it maintains its headquarters. The Rockefeller Foundation developed the concept leading to ICLARM, and remains its principal donor.
