Harvard Law and International Development Society

We are the Harvard Law and International Development Society (LIDS)—a diverse group of students from Harvard Law School, the Harvard Kennedy School, the Tufts Fletcher School, and other graduate schools in the Boston area. We all share a passion for the challenges and opportunities that lie at the intersection of law, policy, and international development. Our overarching goals are to make a difference in the developing world and to expose our members to practical work in this sphere.

African Union

On 9.9.1999, the Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African Unity issued a Declaration (the Sirte Declaration) calling for the establishment of an African Union, with a view, inter alia, to accelerating the process of integration in the continent to enable it play its rightful role in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic and political problems compounded as they are by certain negative aspects of globalisation.


Illegal logging portal

The Illegal Logging Portal, hosted and maintained by Chatham House, provides information on illegal logging and the trade in illegal timber. It provides an overview of some of the key issues and developments, and includes a searchable database of documents and news items from around the world.

The database includes over 40,000 summaries and provides free links to full-text research and policy documents from over 8,000 publishers. Each document is selected by members of our editorial team.
