Co-identifying alternative technological innovations for prioritized value chains for the Mbire and Murehwe districts of Zimbabwe

December, 2022
Zimbabwe

The main objective of this action was to co-identify technological and institutional innovations that can be implemented within the agroecology living landscapes (ALLs) to facilitate the agroecological transition with specific reference to pre-selected value chains. The action also aimed to co-develop the action to be implemented in the ALLs by the farmers. This co-development capacitated all stakeholders and built confidence to use local resources to solve local problems.

Annual Innovahub Meeting: Exchange of results and learnings between national and local agrifood actors in Guatemala and Honduras

December, 2022

Under the Latin American Regional initiative AgriLAC Resiliente, the establishment of Innovahubs in Guatemala and Honduras has been a pivotal focus. At year end, in each country intensive stakeholders' meetings were organized at the subnational level to foster participatory discussions and delineate key aspects on how to consolidate and mature the Innovahubs and its core activities. Rooted in a hub model approach, the Innovahubs aim to catalyze innovation by facilitating spaces for collaborative learning, adapting to local contexts, and promoting interactive knowledge acquisition.

Gender differentiated adaptation strategies considering climate risk perceptions, impacts and socio-technical conditions in Senegal’s dry regions

December, 2022
India

This study analyses the gender-differentiated farmers’ perception of climate risk and its impact, access to climate information, and adaptation strategies with the aim to develop gender responsive climate adaptation pathways in Senegal’s dry regions. Study used data collected from 514 farm households through primary survey between May and June 2022 covering Kaffrine, Louga, and Thies sub-regions and multiple communes, including 5% women headed households and 12% women respondents.

Training of Trainers (ToT) on Soil Carbon Sequestration and Crop Production Course Module

Global

As part of the AICCRA project, the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted land Use (WASCAL) and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) are tasked to to develop curricula and training materials to accelerate the mainstreaming Climate Information Services (CIS) and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) into University’s curricula in Africa.

Silvopastoral systems and their role in climate change mitigation and nationally determined contributions in Latin America

December, 2022
Bahrain

Cattle ranching is a productive activity that generates high amounts of greenhouse gases (GHG) such as methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2), but can also provide effective alternatives to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Within the livestock sector, silvopastoral systems (SPS) have the capacity to reduce GHG emissions, increase carbon stocks, adapt to climate change, improve animal welfare and increase production of milk, beef and timber under different conditions.

The effects of addressing gender norms and access to resources on gender equality in climate-affected agrifood systems in Bangladesh

December, 2022
Bangladesh

In the face of transforming agri-food systems (AFS) and climate change, it is critical to uncover potential pathways through which gender equality and resilience of AFS can be simultaneously addressed. In this quasi-experimental impact study, we assess the effects of two interventions in Kishoreganj district in Bangladesh—a climate hotspot—on women’s empowerment, intrahousehold gender equality of climate resilient capacities and AFS outcomes.

Understanding gendered coping mechanisms of actors within cassava production in the face of prevailing climate change challenges in Tanzania

December, 2022
India

Prominent climate change events such as heavy rainfall, windstorms, heatwaves, and drought pose detrimental effects on the livelihoods and resilience of women and men actors in agri-food systems (AFS). This study explored the difference in coping mechanisms employed by women and men cassava smallholder farmers in the face of such climate change adversities.

Innovahubs: In-depth local actor and stakeholder analysis. Stakeholders’ assessment of the dynamic relationships and recommendations for sustainable scaling from within the Innovahubs

December, 2022
Spain

The participation, engagement, and interaction of local actors in the Innovahubs is an essential part of the development and strengthening of the subnational innovation systems, so knowing and understanding the nature, identity and presence, and involvement of each type of actor over time is essential to understand their behavior and motivations to partake in the knowledge and innovation processes. Therefore, this report seeks to update on the actors participating in the relevant activities in the Innovahub, their activities, and the type of relations they have with other actors.

Report on Gender Equality (HER+) Initiative training workshop on gender-responsive and nutrition-sensitive agriculture Ethiopia

December, 2022
Ethiopia

The Gender Equality Initiative (HER+) conducts innovative gender and social science research to develop actionable solutions to enhance climate resilience and empowerment of women in Africa and Asia. As one-size-fits-all solutions do not exist, HER+ identifies and develops diverse scenarios for co-creation of bundling socio-technical innovations. In Ethiopia, the initiative is closely working with the Veggies for Planet and People (V4P&P) project implemented by the World Vegetable

Multidimensional forests: Complexity of forest-based values and livelihoods across Amazonian socio-cultural and geopolitical contexts

December, 2022
Global

Research on the contribution of forests to local livelihoods has so far had a strong focus on quantifying the monetary value of forest-derived products and services. In this paper, we move beyond monetary valuation and integrate the less tangible and sometimes culturally complex dimensions through which forests support local livelihoods. We look at four local contexts in the Brazilian, Bolivian and Ecuadorian Amazon, which differ markedly in terms of their biophysical, sociocultural and geopolitical settings.

Chapter Three. Conservation agriculture for regenerating soil health and climate change mitigation in smallholder systems of South Asia

December, 2022
Global

The increase in agriculture production to meet the food demand of growing human population from a limited availability of arable land with low environmental footprints and preserving natural resources (soil, water and air) simultaneously are major challenges in South Asia. The situation is further complicated by the climate change, which will further lower the food production, compounding the challenge of meeting food demand.

Developpement agricole, genre et securite alimentaire: une analyse comparative des menages ruraux dans les zones montagneuses du territoire de Kalehe (RDC) et du district de Rusizi (Rwanda)
