The Regional Action Plan for the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean (RAP) seeks to be the regional expression of the New Urban Agenda (NUA). It promotes evidence-based policy making, setting out potential actions and interventions as well as relevant and priority policy guidance for all Latin American and Caribbean countries towards the achievement of sustainable urban development.

El Plan de Acción Regional para la Implementación de la Nueva Agenda Urbana en América Latina y el Caribe (PAR) pretende ser la expresión regional de la Nueva Agenda Urbana (NAU). El PAR promueve la elaboración de políticas basadas en evidencia de las dinámicas de la urbanización, y establece recomendaciones de acciones e intervenciones potenciales, así como también orientación política relevante y prioritaria para todos los países en América Latina y el Caribe para el logro del desarrollo urbano sostenible.

Fiona Littlejohn - Oficial de Asuntos Ambientales de la División de Desarrollo Sostenible de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) habla sobre el ODS 11. El acelerado crecimiento urbano enfatiza la necesidad de crear ciudades y asentamientos humanos seguros, inclusivos, eficientes y sostenibles. Se hace énfasis en el logro de sistemas de transporte sostenibles e inclusivos, debido a la alta tasa de motorización que se registra en la región, lo que conlleva problemas de movilidad, seguridad y ambientales.

Recientemente se ha constituido una agenda urbana de desarrollo sostenible que tiene como fundamentos los diagnósticos y compromisos asumidos en diversos acuerdos internacionales que han tenido lugar en los últimos años. Entre estos resaltan la Agenda 2030, la Nueva Agenda Urbana Mundial y el Acuerdo de París.

El objetivo general del escrito es analizar la estructura y dinámica macroeconómica de la ZMCM como diagnóstico que fundamente la elaboración de un Plan Multidimensional de Desarrollo de la Ciudad de México, 2020-2040. Específicamente, se determinaron las actividades manufactureras, comerciales y de servicios básicas para su desarrollo, así como las zonas dónde localizarlas e impulsarlas, lo que permitió delinear una estrategia macroeconómica intrametropolitana.

This policy brief provides details of the United Nations Special Rapporteur recommendations regarding how governments can upgrade informal settlements within a human rights-based framework. A human rights-based approach will require that residents are ensured security of tenure over the land on which they live. States are legally required to set in motion policies and plans which have as their end goal the fulfilment of the right to adequate housing. Upgrading can reduce poverty, promote economic development and prosperity, and improve the health and well-being of residents.

In terms of the splintering of cities, it is important to understand contemporary urbanization processes, speculative real estate development, and ways to challenge these via new modes of politics. This case study analyzes the impacts of largely ‘illegal’ city building, on different groups of people within the city, particularly relating to spatial (in)justice and violence.

This paper examines the various ways in which migrant settlers have gained and maintained access to land in the informal urban settlements of Wewak, the provincial capital of East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea (PNG). Urban population growth in PNG and in Pacific Island states more generally is predicted to grow rapidly over the next two decades. Given the limited availability of formal housing for lower income people, it is likely that many will live in informal urban settlements on land owned by customary landowners.
