Report on regional learning platform webinar series
The Programme for Climate-Smart Livestock Systems (PCSL) is an initiative designed to enable key actors in the livestock sector to increasingly include climate change adaptation and mitigation in their farming practices, sector strategies and investment projects. PCSL is financed by GIZ and commissioned by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. GIZ has commissioned the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the World Bank to implement the programme activities. ILRI’s programme activities are based in Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda.
How does climate exacerbate root causes of livestock-related conflicts in Kenya? Climate Security Pathway Analysis
This factsheet gives answers on how climate exacerbates root causes of livestock-related conflict in
Kenya, using an impact pathway analysis. Three main impact pathways are identified:
Household farm production diversity and micronutrient intake: Where are the linkages? Panel data evidence from Uganda
Hunger and malnutrition are key global challenges whose understanding is instrumental to their elimination, thus realization of important sustainable development goals (SDGs). However, understanding linkages between farm production diversity (FPD) and household micronutrient intake is important in mapping micronutrient deficiencies and hidden hunger. Such understanding would inform appropriate interventions against malnutrition. Unfortunately, empirical literature is scarce to sufficiently inform such understanding.
Regenerative grazing For climate, ecosystem, and human health
The brief is about the case study of two transformative land regeneration approaches developed in Africa: agroforestry and regenerative grazing management. These two approaches come together in silvopastoral systems - livestock grazing and browsing in tree-dotted grasslands - which have been ranked among the most effective carbon drawdown tools at our disposal. This was presented in COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt venue.
Successful research-for-development partnerships: ILRI and CGIAR centers in the IGAD region+
A presentation on a positive role that research can play supporting development interventions by Fiona Flintan, in December 2022 at the EU workshop: Regional programme in livestock and pastoralism for climate change adaptation in Eastern/Horn of Africa, Movenpick Hotel, Nairobi
