The starting point for the Conference and Summit was the recognition that ongoing transitions in the name of climate change and clean energy are deeply unfair in multiple ways. Climate policies and so-called green investments place huge burdens on people and spaces in the Global South as well as on areas inhabited by marginalized populations in countries of the Global North. Their rights are put under pressure, safeguards are lacking or not enforced, and the room to defend their lands, forests, pastures, and territories is constrained.

Developing countries are increasingly focusing more on land policy as part of their development plans. Ghana created its National Land Policy in 1999 but hasn't updated it in over 25 years, despite significant changes in land governance. Land policy reforms since colonial times were carried out without a structured plan, leading to problems in land management and many legal disputes due to existing land laws' shortcomings. This situation prompted the development of a thorough Land Policy in 1999.

This brief consolidates the key findings from a larger Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG) regional report Towards gender-equitable land policy and law-making in the Mekong Region. The report used consultation processes over the 2024 Land Law as a case study, and involved interviews, participatory consultation pilots, observations of national consultation workshops, and an extensive literature review.

The Land Portal Foundation's 2023 Annual Report presents a comprehensive overview of our efforts and accomplishments in transforming land data governance worldwide. 

Our report highlights three fundamental pillars that have guided our work: Inform, Open, and Debate. Through these pillars, we've expanded our global database of land and property rights programs, enhanced land governance data management, supported data literacy and advocacy, and facilitated critical debates on land governance issues.

This one-pager provides details on the LAND-at-scale project in Iraq. This project is implemented by UN-Habitat and The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HIIL), and financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via the Netherlands Enterprise & Development Agency (RVO). 

This study addresses the significant issue of land fragmentation in Ethiopia, which is characterized by  small, irregular, scattered parcels  with no or adequate road access. With landholders owning multiple small and dispersed parcels, averaging 1.5 hectares, the situation demands urgent policy intervention.
