The impacts of natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and tsunamis have been increasing steadily since the 1950’s, particularly for developing countries. According to a World Bank external evaluation report “natural disasters destroyed US$652 billion in property worldwide in the 1990s alone – an amount 15 times higher in real terms compared to the 1950s.
Throughout its history, Mozambique has had to deal with cyclones and floods, and when these are severe they have a devastating impact. Apart from the immediate threat to human life, such natural disasters seriously impede economic growth. There is no doubt that the Limpopo valley floods in 2000 were one of the worst flood disasters in Mozambique’s history.
Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world. Its 144,000 square kilometres are home to an estimated 150 million people. About 45 percent (2004) of them live below the national poverty line and around 36 percent are living on US$ 1 per day.
Article 1 shall be amended to add the following wording: “The right to allotment on condition of ownership of public and municipal land free of charge shall be granted to citizens that have lost their housing facilities as a result of natural or technological disaster”. Amends: Regional Law No. 809-OD “On allotment of public and municipal land to citizens free of charge”. (2009-06-23)

El texto describe el impacto del terremoto de febrero de 2010 sobre la dinámica del mundo rural chileno, analizando el impacto económico por el daño a la infraestructura productiva, el impacto en la definición y orientación de las políticas agrarias y el impacto asociado a las transformaciones en los asentamientos humanos y las relaciones sociales subyacentes.
Los authores del documento intentan reflexionar sobre la importancia de la ciudad intermedia en el Chile de hoy, las tensiones que vive en el contexto de treinta años de transformaciones neoliberales en el país, y los efectos del reciente terremoto del 27 de febrero.
