Facilitating Community-based Adaptation through Climate-Smart Agriculture - Trainer's Resource Book

December, 2020
Global

This training guide provides users with principles, concepts and practices on climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and community-based adaptation (CBA). It is composed of seven modules spread under a three-part document. This training guide was designed to enhance the capacity of users to facilitate processes leading to community-based adaptation to climate change, and to:
• Understand the principles, concepts and practices related to climate change, CSA and CBA
• Learn the application of participatory approaches and social learning processes in CBA

The potential of agrobiodiversity for improving diets and nutrition in Ghana

December, 2020
Ghana

This report gives an overview of current use and conservation practices and related knowledge of neglected and under underutilized species in Ghana, a brief description of the roles of key stakeholders (government, knowledge institutes, private sector and civil society), identification of knowledge gaps, and a strategy for the promotion of NUS.

Climate security in the Central American Dry Corridor

December, 2020
Fiji

The evidence on conflicts around the world since the turn of the century points to a simple conclusion: conflicts, grievances and insecurities are increasingly being affected by changing climates, environmental degradation, food insecurity, and the struggle to control a finite pool of natural resources. This paper aims to understand the linkages between climate, conflict, agriculture, and

User guide to impact network analysis (INA). RTB User Guide

December, 2020
Global

From COVID-19 to emerging crop diseases and exotic pests that threaten natural ecosystems, invasive species are a major problem globally. Invasive populations, such as antibiotic- or pesticide-resistant genotypes or new pathotypes, are also a serious challenge. Desirable populations, such as improved crop varieties and endangered species, also have the potential to spread under the right conditions. Successful seed systems may require both types of management: supporting the spread of new crop varieties and stopping or slowing the spread of seedborne pathogens.

Inclusive participatory approaches: A facilitator’s guide

December, 2020
Global

In community engagement and participatory processes, facilitators must make intentional efforts and adopt inclusive strategies to include marginalized and frequently overlooked groups. Yet, there is a lack of guidance on how to inclusively facilitate participatory processes. Facilitators are therefore often poorly prepared to engage with the power relations that underlie these processes, including those between the facilitator and participants and among participants themselves.

Future carbon emissions from global mangrove forest loss

December, 2020
Global

Mangroves have among the highest carbon densities of any tropical forest. These ‘blue carbon’ ecosystems can store large amounts of carbon for long periods, and their protection reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports climate change mitigation. Incorporating mangroves into Nationally Determined Contributions to the Paris Agreement and their valuation on carbon markets requires predicting how the management of different land‐uses can prevent future greenhouse gas emissions and increase CO2 sequestration.

Improvement of modeling plant responses to low soil moisture in JULESvn4.9 and evaluation against flux tower measurements

December, 2020
Global

Abstract. Drought is predicted to increase in the future due to climate change, bringing with it myriad impacts on ecosystems. Plants respond to drier soils by reducing stomatal conductance in order to conserve water and avoid hydraulic damage. Despite the importance of plant drought responses for the global carbon cycle and local and regional climate feedbacks, land surface models are unable to capture observed plant responses to soil moisture stress.

Understanding People−Forest Relationships: A Key Requirement for Appropriate Forest Governance in South Sumatra, Indonesia

December, 2020
Indonesia

Indonesian forestry challenges in attributional land-use conflicts of overlapping villages and state forests have affected community livelihoods and forest sustainability for decades. This empirical research uncovers the socio-economic attributes of villages in order to gain a better understanding of people−forest relationships in order to guide improved forest management and governance for long-term sustainability. Data were obtained from 69 villages located in the forest management unit of Lakitan Bukit Cogong in South Sumatra Province.

Experience capitalization of Gudoberet- and Hosanna-Jawe landscape restoration process in Ethiopia

December, 2020
Ethiopia

This study was undertaken in the Gudoberet- and Jawe landscapes located in Amhara and SNNP regions of Ethiopia, respectively. Experience Capitalization (EC) process approach was used to capture a wide range of experiences related to landscape restoration project in Gudoberet- and Jawe landscapes. Although there has been several studies regarding landscape restoration in Ethiopia, the use of EC process in landscape restoration is the first attempt in the country.
