Impacts of Land Certification on Tenure Security, Investment, and Land Markets

While early attempts at land titling in Africa were often unsuccessful, the need to secure land rights has kindled renewed interest, in view of increased demand for land, a range of individual and communal rights available under new laws, and reduced costs from combining information technology with participatory methods. We used a difference-in-difference approach to assess the effects of a low-cost land registration program in Ethiopia, which covered some 20 million plots over five years, on investment.

Farmers Trade Agenda in ASEAN

This research is intended to help contribute to this articulation process by identifying and consolidating small farmers' trade agenda in five countries, namely Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. These countries represent a good mix of both net agricultural exporters and importers, providing the paper with a balanced perspective of looking at trade and its impact on small farmers. The agenda of small farmers in these countries formed the bases for the formulation of their trade agenda in ASEAN. The research is divided into three parts.


The State of the then NAFCO, NARCO and Absentee Landlords' Farms/Ranches in Tanzania

The study sought to determine the state of farms that belonged to the then National Agricultural Corporation (NAFCO), ranches that belong to the National Ranching Company (NAFCO) and land belonging to absentee landlords. Since any state is dynamic, this research report, then, is a socio-historical account of what has been happening within/out more than 543,604 hectares of ranch/farmland in the wake of the fall of nationalization and rise of privatization.


Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Land in Mali

This study by GTZ on behalf of BMZ about FDI in land has identified numerous problems that the Malian Government needs to tackle. Since 2007 foreign direct investments (FDI) in land have dramatically increased. Situated in West Africa, the Republic of Mali
covers an area of 1,241,238 km2. Of this in 2002, 35.2 % was designated arable land and 11.6 % was cultivated land. To date, FDI covers 130,105 ha of land. The study formulates recommendations to ensure that local communities derive the best possible benefits from FDI.
