The Geo-History Of Urban Land Governance In Côte D’Ivoire: An Analysis Of Urban Sprawl In Bouaké

December, 2022
France

African cities are characterized by urbanization, social and economic problems that very often favor crises in the development of their spaces. The city of Bouake, in the center of Côte d'Ivoire, has been experiencing urban sprawl since 1980. This urban sprawl is the result of shortcomings in urban land governance in Côte d'Ivoire following several land reforms. This study analyzes the successions of urban land reforms poorly suited to population growth and a difficult economic context in Bouake.

Brasil

Comprehensive Eco-Environmental Effects Caused by Land Use Transition from the Perspective of Production–Living–Ecological Spaces in a Typical Region: A Case Study of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China

Peer-reviewed publication
December, 2021
Global

With the promotion of rapid economic and social development, land use has undergone profound processes of transition worldwide, leaving the production–living–ecological spaces (PLES) and landscape pattern reconfigured, thus further affecting regional eco-environmental quality and landscape ecological risk.

Identification of Land Use Conflicts in Shandong Province from an Ecological Security Perspective

Peer-reviewed publication

Global

Accurate identification of land use conflicts is an important prerequisite for the rational allocation of land resources and optimizing the production–living–ecological space pattern. Previous studies used suitability assessment and landscape pattern indices to identify land use conflicts. However, research on land use conflict identification from the perspective of ecological security is insufficient and not conducive to regional ecological, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The Relative Timing of Population Growth and Land Use Change—A Case Study of North Taiwan from 1990 to 2015

Peer-reviewed publication
December, 2021
Global

Urban expansion is a form of land cover and land use change (LCLUC) that occurs globally, and population growth can be a driver of and be driven by LCLUC. Determining the cause–effect relationship is challenging because the temporal resolution of population data is limited by decadal censuses for most countries. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship and relative timing between population change and land use change based on a case study of northern Taiwan from 1990 to 2015.

Using Multiple Sources of Data and “Voting Mechanisms” for Urban Land-Use Mapping

Peer-reviewed publication
December, 2021
Global

High-quality urban land-use maps are essential for grasping the dynamics and scale of urban land use, predicting future environmental trends and changes, and allocating national land resources. This paper proposes a multisample “voting mechanism” based on multisource data and random forests to achieve fine mapping of urban land use. First, Zhengzhou City was selected as the study area. Based on full integration of multisource features, random forests were used to perform the preliminary classification of multiple samples.

Triple Spatial Effects of the Administrative Hierarchy on Urban Built-Up Areas in Fujian Province, China: Heterogeneity, Radiation, and Segmentation

Peer-reviewed publication
December, 2021
China

The expansion of urban built-up areas is one of the most prominent characteristics of land use change in China. A growing body of literature has emphasized the triple spatial effects of the administrative hierarchy on urban built-up areas expansion, including heterogeneity, radiation, and segmentation. However, the existing studies have mainly focused on the administrative hierarchy at the prefectural level and above and have primarily concentrated on one single effect; few have integrated the triple effects as a whole.

Land Use Efficiency in the Yellow River Basin in the Background of China’s Economic Transformation: Spatial-Temporal Characteristics and Influencing Factors

Peer-reviewed publication
December, 2021
China

Rapid urbanization has led to the increasing scarcity of land resources in China. Exploring the spatial-temporal characteristics and influencing factors of urban land use efficiency (LUE) is of great significance for optimizing the allocation efficiency of land resources and promoting regional sustainable development. In this study, the Super-SBM model was used to calculate the urban LUE of the Yellow River Basin from 2009 to 2018. The regional differences and agglomeration characteristics of LUE in the Yellow River Basin were analyzed.
