We used the process-oriented niche model CLIMEX to estimate the potential global distribution of serrated tussock under projected future climates. Serrated tussock is a drought-tolerant, wind- and human-dispersed grass of South American origin that has invaded pastures in Australia, Europe, New Zealand, and South Africa.
It is challenging to perform spatial geochemical modelling due to the spatial heterogeneity features of geochemical variables. Meanwhile, high quality geochemical maps are needed for better environmental management. Soil organic C (SOC) distribution maps are required for improvements in soil management and for the estimation of C stocks at regional scales.
This issue examines the ¿Economic and social significance of forests for Africa¿s sustainable development¿. It addresses efforts of African nations to sustainably manage their forests. Authors share cases and experiences highlighting attempts made by forest and natural resource managers to develop innovative partnerships with new stakeholders outside the traditional forest sector.
Great share of rented land in total utilised area as well as a significant variability of land rent and market prices of land causes a need of research that would assess which factors influence the land rent as well as the price of land and how significant such factor are in each state. The average land rent is significantly lower in new EU member states than in the EU 15 members.
Discrete choice experiment data aimed at eliciting the demand for recreationalwalking trails on farmland in Ireland is used to explore whether some respondentsreach their choices solely on the basis of the alternative’s label. To investigatethis type of processing strategy, the paper exploits a discrete mixtures approachwhich encompasses random parameters for the attributes.
This report examines the role of European Union (EU) member States, both collectively and individually, in the current reported wave of foreign land investment in Africa that has led to the current use of the term ‘land grabbing’.It discusses whether this role is consistent with the EU’s commitment to advance agriculture in Africa in order to help achieve the Millennium Development G
In Ireland fertilised grasslands are major source of nitrous oxide (N₂O), a powerful greenhouse gas. We present 5 years (2004-2008) of eddy-covariance (EC) observations of N₂O fluxes from an ecosystem transitioning from wet managed grassland to a broadleaf forestry.
The spatial variation of extractable (Morgan's) soil phosphorus (P), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), pH and lime requirement (LR) in a permanent dairy farm in southeastern Ireland, was investigated using conventional statistics, geostatistics and a geographical information system (GIS) to produce nutrient maps and to provide information for site-specific fertilizer application.
