The purposes of the present Act are to make public bodies more accountable to the public and to protect personal privacy by: a) giving the public a right of access to records; b) giving individuals a right of access to, and a right to request correction of, personal information about themselves. In particular, the Act applies also to land claims settlement of first nations. The text consists of 69 sections divided into 6 Parts as follows: Introductory provisions (1); Access to information (2); Protection of privacy (3); Office and functions of information and privacy commissioner (4); Complaints, reviews and appeals (5); General provisions (6).
