The present Act provides the Government of the Northwest Territories with authority related to the disposition and use of land, including the disposition of subsurface minerals. Furthermore, it provides the Government of the North West Territories with the authority to lease and sell land, and sets out prohibitions on trespass and the unauthorized use of public lands. Section 3 establishes that the Commissioner in Executive Council may for the protection of the ecological balance or physical characteristics of any area in the Northwest Territories, by Regulation set apart and appropriate any territorial lands in that area as a land management zone. The text consists of 57 sections.
