The Land and Marine Management Strategy for Grenada is a national strategy adopted by the Government of Grenada in 2011 to guide the management of the land and marine sector. The overall goal of the Strategy is to achieve integrated national development that is environmentally sustainable. The instrument seeks to develop a coherent framework with an appropriate set of strategies that will foster productive and optimal utilization of land, freshwater, coastal and marine resources in an environmental sustainable manner. To achieve this, the Strategy will develop a legislative policy framework for land and marine management, establish network administrator organizations, develop tools for management of land and marine resources, and develop a framework for planning, implementation, monitoring and review. The overall objective is to develop and widely utilize tools for the creation of a seamless integrated system for management of land and marine resources. The aim is to implement activities and programmes related to natural resource assessment, information management, education and public awareness, standards of codes of practices, economic instruments and incentives, environmental impact assessment, and land use planning. In particular, the Strategy will seek to ensure that individuals and economic entities are given appropriate incentives for sustainable resource use and environmental protection. It will develop economic incentives for private land owners and users to invest in soil and water conservation methods, agro-forestry techniques, good husbandry practices, development and maintenance of tree plantations or woodlots, use of appropriate livestock stocking rates; and provide tax incentives to businesses undertaking restoration and conservation. The Strategy also seeks to create efficient network administrator organizations for coordination of land and marine resource management in the country, thus contributing to making agriculture and resource management more inclusive and efficient.Special consideration is given to future natural hazard and climate change impacts; and the conduction of environmental and natural hazard impact assessments for all land use plans. In addition, training in environmental intelligence, information management, trend impact analysis and forecasting including predicting climate change future scenarios will be conducted.A main outcome of the Strategy is to create coordinating mechanisms needed to implement the Strategy and to ensure that action can be taken at all appropriate levels of decision making. The Strategy is to be implemented with support from all stakeholders, including ministries, agencies, statutory bodies, private sector, non governmental entities, communities and individuals.
