Since few years the climate temperature is constantly rising up due to high emission of Green House Gases (GHG's) which is one of the main reason for climate change. Nepal is a small country which has little or no influence in causing climate change, however because of its weak economy, complex landscape, sensitive biodiversity, uneducated and vulnerable people in Nepal makes it less equipped to fight the consequences of climate change thus make them highly vulnerable.
Forest is regarded as one of the cheap, quick and effective climate change mitigation measure throughout the world. In Nepal, forest is a daily source of livelihood to most of the Nepalese people and is being managed by them from a long time. However, these days forest management is not only limited to the daily use for livelihood purposes; but also reducung climate change through carbon trading programme such as REDD+.
REDD+ supports, facilitates and encourages underdeveloped/developing nation to protect their forests to benefit themselves by trading carbon which is emitted mostly by industrialised nation. If REDD+ is implemented in an effective way and taken as an opportunity for developing nation; its evident that forest will be protected naturally and community are encouraged to protect forest for its direct benefits too. To ensure benefits from REDD+; concerned stakeholders are constantly engaged on implementing, revisiting and amending REDD+ strategy and its programs to conbact climate change and benefit the people in various ways in Nepal.
This leaflet provides explanations about the basics of climate change and the role of the local communities. This climate change booklet in Nepali was developed under the Norad supported REDD+ Grassroots Program. Collaborative Partners include ForestAction Nepal; Nepal Foresters Association (NFA); International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD); Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN); Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources (ANSAB); and The Himalayan Grassroots Women's Natural Resource Management Association (HIMAWANTI).
