The World Bank is looking for a LGAF global coordinator

The World Bank is looking for a global coordinator to support the implementation of land governance assessments in new countries and the follow up on existing ones. The latter would include to ensure piloting and eventual scaling up of innovative approaches in areas that have been identified as bottlenecks in a way that links to the ongoing policy dialogue and informs broader initiatives. This is a challenging opportunity to help advance the land agenda at a critical juncture.

 

It takes more than a law to ensure equal land rights for women

OXFORD, England, April 15 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Laws giving men and women equal rights to land are not enough to ensure equality if they are not accompanied by efforts to empower and educate women, said the head of an organisation working to put the power of the law into people's hands.

Huila: Matala administration makes available 20,000 hectares for agriculture

Matala - Over 20,000 hectares of land have been made available for national and foreign entrepreneurs interested in investing in the agricultural sector in Matala Municipality, southern Huila Province, informed on Monday the Matala administrator, Miguel Vicente.

Just one in 10 women inherits land

Just one in 10 women whose parents own agricultural land inherit any land, a soon-to-be-published study by U.N. Women and the land rights advocacy group Landesa has shown. Eight years after women were given equal inheritance rights in law, dowry is still seen as ‘adequate’ recompense for inheritance, the study finds.
