The IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement) is a multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to working closely with partner countries on global development issues. Placed under the joint supervision of the French Ministry of Research and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International
Development, the IRD uses an original approach on development research and expertise throughout its international network in over 90 countries. The IRD aims at using its research and tools for the benefit of countries that make science and innovation the prime levers for development.

In march 2015 and the appointment of a new governance, the IRD established a newly restructured organization engaged in a global approach to development. Final report of the Task Group on GBIF Data Fitness for Use in Agrobiodiversity

Reports & Research
December, 2016

Human wellbeing and food security in a changing climate depend on productive and

sustainable food production. Therefore, data from agrobiodiversity and wider biodiversity sources

AgroPortal: a proposition for ontology-based services in the agronomic domain

Conference Papers & Reports
December, 2016

Our project is to develop and support a reference ontology repository for the agronomic domain. By reusing the NCBO BioPortal technology, we have already designed and implemented a prototype ontology repository for plants and a few crops. We plan to turn that prototype into a real service to the community. The AgroPortal project aims at reusing the scientific outcomes and experience of the biomedical domain in the context of plant, agronomic and environment sciences.

Farmer seed networks make a limited contribution to agriculture? Four common misconceptions

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2015

The importance of seed provisioning in food security and nutrition, agricultural development and rural livelihoods, and agrobiodiversity and germplasm conservation is well accepted by policy makers, practitioners and researchers. The role of farmer seed networks is less well understood and yet is central to debates on current issues ranging from seed sovereignty and rights for farmers to GMOs and the conservation of crop germplasm. In this paper we identify four common misconceptions regarding the nature and importance of farmer seed networks today.
